During my engg.college days, I met a guy from Manipur, quite jolly, energetic , bindass kinda guy. Just like others, he had a luving & caring mom & father( a primary school teacher by profession), who had a dream to see their son coming out with flying colours. Being the only son, he was the nucleus of their dreams…& were trying to give every possible help...(monetary constraints were alweyz there ....), a younger sister he luved & cared for immensely.....who used to send him letters regularly & he too used to respond it without fail. Though written in Manipuri dialect, I cud sense the concern his sister had......that he sud not to worry abt her & parents....that they all r fine ....that she doing her studies well ....& that he must study well & work hard so as to make their parents dream come true.... He had a childhood sweetheart, a soulmate, he luved & cared, together shared a dream for their future as well … Being in the same branch, we vibed quite well & became best of frens.....he was fond of singing & together used to sing after dinner putting all the lights off. Our study table used to serve the purpose of tabla. We used to do our daily assignments together. Be it going for a juice or dinner or muvie ....we wer alwez together. He was sensible enuff to realize how hard his parents are sending him money so that he cud carry on his Engg. from one of the prestigious Engg. college. I managed to get thru campus selection & got a job but he sumhow cudn’t manage to do so. We completed our graduation together & just after that I was sent to pune for my training. During those days mobile was a new thing & very few cud afford it. He was not sure where he’ll go, may be Delhi /Banglore /Mumbai for a job hunt. So we parted away promising to meet each other in future. I missed him a lot during my training days & was trying to know where exactly was he & what was he doing. I tried my level best, asking my other frens but failed to get any info. It was almost after 4 years I happened to meet one of my Manipuri senior in Gurgaon. When I asked him about my fren, the story he told me was heartbreaking. After graduation, he went to B’lore & after few month he was in delhi. Unable to get a decent job.He was mentally broken. He was treated under psychiatric experts for a year or so ..... after that he was taken back to manipur by his parents. Once a jolly, vibrant guy now a quiet soul..... I wish I cud meet him ....May be he tried to get in touch with me but failed to do so...... Now there is a saying ” Whatever Happens .... Happens For Good” but is this alwez true ....??? I would say "NO"..... Nothing good happened....... a luving parents lost his jolly Son..... a sister lost his caring Brother..... a gal lost hER Love & I lost my FRIEND..... I still wonder & keep myself asking .... why it all happened ....???? Life sometimes plays a dirty trick....

Taking a look at our contsituency, Munshyari –Dharchula constituency …… there were many contenders for this seat. Sitting MLA Gagan S Rajwar ( a.k.a. Rajwa, as an independent after being denied a ticket by Congress ), so called Fire Brand lady Smt. Sakuntala Datal (Congress), Shir Kundar S Tolia (BJP), Tiger Garbyal, Hoshiyar Khair, Kutiyal, Chandu Khair, Khampa & few more … But final result shocked many … Rawja proved his political acumen beating his nearest rival Shri Kundan S Tolia by more than 5000 votes. Nobody expected that he’ll take away cake this easily. 5 years back, a man from nowhere, was brought by few wise ppl to field him as MLA candidate from our constituency. To be precise....he was just a pawn to those people. With large mass support from non rung community... he won that election with record margin. That man was non other than Gagan S Rajwar...much to the frustation of Rung mung who were looking for their polictical graph to shoot up after Dharchula- Munshayari Constituency was declared reserved. Man who never happened to see a train before was talk of the town… on the front page of every newspaper. Those 5 years as MLA....I don’ t know how much development work he carried out in our constituency & frankly speaking his winning this election was doubtful coz most of those wise people (non rung big-wigs) were supporting their respective party candidates. 5 years gone....he was still regarded as a mere puppet who doesn’t know ABC of politics. He proved everyone wrong. Those 5 years as MLA, he mastered the rules of playing the game of politics & fought this election of his own. He knew how & where to hit the right cord. Hope Rung Mung learn a lesson or two from this election. Specially those who are looking for an opportunity to make big in this arena, must look at this persona closely & learn, who rose from nowhere & elected for the second consecutive term as MLA. First term was a fluke, but second was not …… Frankly speaking, I didn’t come across his election agenda ….. Anyway who cares….!!!! One needs to have strong root to grow big ……which our so called rung politicians lag…. They need to look beyond Byas Valley, Chaudas Valley & Darma Valley. Non of these valleys are as politically fertile as Whalan valley. It’s a wake up signal to those rung who dream to put MLA tag before their names. & I sincerely wish Rajwa gets minister tag & comes out with development programmes..…. Forget dharchula ….. but atleast to those villages who made him win twice…… & Well in between thinking of Rung MLA from Dharchula …..??????? I am just 26, but not in my lifetime though…..[:]

cHILDHOOD gAMES .......

My 11-year old bro, a 7th grade who’s staying with me, is very fond of talking. Talking in the sense; he shares how he used to fool mom & go to Red Cross Society’s playground in Bangabagar, how he managed to go to Lacha kho daily for swimming when he was a kiddo (funny part is that he think he’s grown up now ;) ), how he escaped beatings from mom n dad, his excuses n nataks in front of them. His words always refreshes me & also forces me to give it a thought to things happening around & well.... introspect. Being away from home for studies …… i neither had an opportunity be with him at times when he was learning how to crawl , walk & talk … nor saw him doing stupid things what the kids are supposed to do …. So during leisure time he passionately speaks abt his wrongdoings ( ??????? ) back home & expects the same from me … always keeps on pressurizing me to share about my stupidities when I was young & stupid like him …:) thanx to him ….. my childhood memories are still fresh in mind …..:) It so happened yesterday that we were just lazing around, he suddenly bubbled, what games you guys used to play when you were a kiddo ? Going back to childhood memories is very nostalgic indeed. Well…to answer his question I was taken back to my child era. I started recalling games we used to play & after a long pause....i uttered; Yokna (Gulli Danda), Sampolya (soft ball made by putting waste in socks), Addu (Dus ka Raj, Bhasam), Games played with goli like Tyak-Tyak (feminine game), Pil Dugade (masculine game), & one more name I am unable to recollect (in which golis r placed in circle ), Mud ka Jhapad, Tonka (Using square/round stones ), Chakkar (Circular disc generally made of khaini dhakkan with sharp edges; like gears), Gucchi, Chak-Mak ga Patta , Chya-shega, Tam-shega & many more ….…… (I am sure most of the people who played these games, would be smiling after goin thru these words) Well it took me a while to remember, but I was surprised to know that these games are no more played. All I cud realize was that… games I grew up playing are going to get extinct & how things are changing with time. These games are completely replaced by Video games, Computer games. I am sure most of the parents played these games but nowadays they think that child should play more of video games and computer games rather then playing these games. May be they think their children should play games more for brain then the games that involve physical activities. I just wonder…do they find anything wrong in their child’s development by playing these games? I don't feel that I have lost somewhere something or I am underdeveloped when it comes to grey matter than any person in this world… At the same time, somewhere deep down in my heart I feel that some of the games that we used to play in childhood are part of our Rung Culture ’coz as far as I m concern I haven’t seen few of these games played anywhere else…… Don’t u think these games r worth encouraging…? Or m I sounding STUPID.…….?

World Cup is knocking the door once again... phew ..!!! wat a intazaar.. ..i've been lukin at the time machine since i left for office this morning ..... can't wait anymore... football is ready to sweep the world..... finally late night fever is here again ..... once again i c Brazil rocking...n opponents dancing to the tune of Samba .... 12 June 2006: saw almost all the matches ... i don't c any potential team who can beat my fav Brazil .... wat im really lukin forward is the Team who can beat mighty Brazil ... world cup is all about ulatfares ...wish to c one ... for the past two days we saw struggling German defence against Costa Rica...England fighting for a goal against paraguay (free kick goal by beckham was an accident )...Ecuador was simply superb...Argentina started off well ...Our own Asian team Iran gave a tough fight to Mighty Mexico...Trinidad & Tobago was a no surprize coz most of the players play for premier clubs ... i m lukin forward to c Italy ,Arengtina ,England, France play well ...these r the teams who can give a tought fight to Brazil ... If Germans continue with their pathetic defence (as they did against Costa Rica)they r gonna get dozen goal against tough teams .... Lets Support Japan in tdys match against Australia ....

Maine Suna Hai ........

Few days back an incident shook me …. There was a rumour doin round among the rungmungs ..i don’t know how many of u in this group know ….but im sure most of the ppl know abt it …. It was like ….”Miss X Mr.Y ke Saath Bhaag Gayi …” everyone was talking abt the same ….. i got a call from one of my fren …& he/she started blab blab …. “Maine Suna Hai... X bhag gayi Y ke saath. Surprised, I asked if it’s a mere rumour ….”nahi yaar pakka hai …Sab Log Bol Rahe Hai “. That was his/her response beaming with confidence. Later found, it was a mere gossip but the damage has been already done ….. How often do we cook this sort of masala at the expense of others …? How often we talk bad abt someone whom we even don’t know …? How often we use the word like ….” Maine Suna Tha...n start all those nonsense just without knowing the intensity of those words said for sumone else.... Why the hell they spread such a crappy thing so confidently …...? Why spread things whose authenticity we don’t know ….. I’ve come across many ppl who very often do/say such things just by hearing from someone else n that too was told by some third /fourth person ….. Hard words but I fail to read the character of this sort of people.May be they don’t have the character at all …… Once again ystrdy heard someone saying… “Pakki Khabar Hai …n blab blab blab …. Same story but different characters ....My simple response to this was ....”I wish u stop this nonsense here “ If u r not sure abt something….. pls do make sure it stops at u rather than being the part of that long chain….. Which has rather damaging effect to someone ….

COLOURFUL HOLI ........

Finally the colourful fest of holi is over but hangover is yet to be.. kisi ko rang ka…… kisi ko bhang ka …. For doon chi mung this holi was no different ….colorful n vibrant than ever ….n wat a huge crowd…..!!!! Its been more than three years in doon …n I c the population of the rungmung growing exponentially ….specially the youngsters carrying loads of dreams n working real hard to fulfill those… …almost every rung mung were present …we started from Napalchyal Ji’s house n ended at Sanju Gunjiyal Ji’s house with a grand lunch ….…no one was far behind when it came to adding colours on others face .…I was a later comer….so hard time for me to recognize faces ..….. only thing that’s visible was teeth …one fire brigade tanker was waiting for us at Sanju Gunjiyal Ji;s house ...wat a blend of shower n music….!!! once it started splattering water….. everyone was seen dancing. After the show.....I was completely wet n shivering like anything .. kya bache….. kya boodhe ….is din to sabhi jawaan ho jaate hai ….. n it was real tough job for couples to recognize their other half while muving bak home ....;):):) I spend first half of the day splashing rang & painting others face n spend rest of the day removing colours from my body ….phew....!!!! At the end of the day wat I noticed is the spirit of doon chi rungmung to celebrate each n every occasion like this….. together with love, affection n oneness ….. DOON CHI RUNGMUNG DEFINITELY ROCKS ……

Finally….. we are one step closer to realizing our dream…..that is Jhyangmothon – 2006.We had a video shoot for Jhyangmothon this Sunday at Jazz Studio in Delhi …. thanx to Jeewan Da for squeezing time out of his busy schedule for this cause …. we had 8 volunteers for this show … Akash Rapya, Gaggu Hyanki, Pooja Patiyal, Babi Nabiyal, Pramod Nangyal n few youngsters….Behind the scene was Jeewan Da n Prakash Nabiyal… First Shoot was just to show intensity on the face n gaze at the camera for 20 secs … Seems so easy but it was tough for almost all of us to do the job ….concentrating eyes at the camera for 20 secs was too hectic …n in between many funny things happened like guys twisting their tongue , blinking eyes, showing close up teeth, laughing btw the recording … no one was far behind making fun of others… Jeewan da was seen askin ppl not to make make noise n stop makin fun of others ...Finally for audio rec. each one of us was given a punchline…. At one point…. my dear fren Pooja was to deliver a dialogue ..it was like AAO…. CHALE….. DAUDE ….with “raring to go” attitude on the face but every time she did .. it was like she’s narrating poem …..we cudn’t stop laughing …finally we changed her dialogue to “ 7 April ..Dharchula Me ….” Just like u c in late night crime shows showing finger n saying “Agar Chain Se Soona Hai To Jag Jao…. “ this time she did her job flawlessly …. Well... few things yet to be done bfore we c it ov tv …..post editing work is yet to be done …n I’ve already send route map n logo to Jeewan Da …Thanx to Amit for sending me the route map in no time…… Once Again My Sincere Thanx To Jeewan Da For His Patience & Kind Efforts… Shooting was fun ….but im sure video ad.’s gonna be lot more funnier ..:) :):):)

I must say …m very fortunate that Gabla Sae thomo happened jst after a day I landed dharchula …experienced the joy of going at the roof top, tying dhaza on the fresh daali paat & Finally Tung zung Daamo ….. which I missed since so many years …nearly 8 years … OFFERING TUNGZUNG AT ROOF-TOP The sound of Tung Zung makes u feel divine …. Tung means vessel on which u hit the Zung means hitting tool (knife)….i came to know abt the word “Tung Zung” during this strip to dharchula ….after that we (Garbyal Families) went to Gabla Sathaan..Amid the musical sound of Dhame ..n Lama chanting the name of gods n sound of TungZung brings within you the feeling of being in the holy place, energized n one can truly feel the presence of divine god on occasions like these ….. TUNG & ZUNG “GabLa Syang Sae Thoyengnye ……aye jya yin raayen ri thooyengne” I don’t remember how many times I sang this song when I was young …..its been ages since I was part this group…. goin places to places for Bhaay Lo….. Gone r the days when somebody offered us Rs 10 (that too nepali) n it was like…..”kushi ka koi thikana nahi rehta tha ….”I Rem that song “kathmandu ko saahar …aye rupya se mule laha re ….”ppl were forced to loosen their pockets to add more if boys feel that Bhay-Lo amount is less ……once a man offered to give 50 paise / dance performance by individual ..we were abt 10 boys n gals in a group .. n each one of us did perform n we got a handsome Rs 5 nepali from that fella….phew ..what a hard earned money ….Sabke Khoon to nahi but Pasine ki kamie zaroor thi …… SCENE FROM GABLA SATHAAN Bhay-Lo is also memorable to me coz this was the platform on which I made my first public dance appearance …:)the song “ek do teen chaar paach che saat aath nau” (i.e 1-2-3 -4-5-6-7-8-9) was sang by my frens n I was literally forced to dance to the tune of these numbers …(tezab’s item song was very popular those days …) Wonder if my good performances in maths has anything to do with my dance performance ..:) Things have changesd tremendously …..elders used to go for Bhaylo with Damae ….with much fanfare …but this time I found our elders just going with the register house to house n noting down the amount given n all is over with in few hrs…may be they ‘ve a reason to do so .. Now even young kids (below 15 years old) won’t leave u unless u shell out not less than Rs 100 from ur pocket….. n these beautifulful RungLo songs r completely replaced by cassette players …just put on the music n dance to the tune of hindi n nepali hits …. SO PITY ….!!!!!! But who’s to be blamed ….???? It’s A Question ……….Worth A Thought …..!!!!!!
